Masticating Molars

The Host

Guten Tag everyone! I’m sorry I haven’t posted in a while, mourning the semi-final loss of my dear German football club last week, so it’s been hard on me!  Anyways, I’ve got a treat for you my dear readers.  Today, I’m going to do a quick review of The Host Indian Restaurant in Richmond Hill Ontario.  A little background on the The Host Restaurant.  The Host is a small chain of Indian restaurants in the GTA with posts in downtown Toronto, Mississauga and Richmond Hill.  Mrs. Fressen and I were recommended to The Host in Richmond Hill by a good friend of ours who, coincidentally, is Indian himself.  So when the senior Fressens came down for a visit over a a year ago, the four of us decided to try The Host Restaurant in Richmond Hill.

Let me tell you, the experience was amazing!  The ambiance and service is definitely better than most Indian restaurants.  The food was fantastic and a definitely an “eureka” moment for Senior Fressen who exclaimed that “it was the best Indian food I have ever eaten!”  This quote does carry tremendous weight as Senior Fressen has indulged in Indian food all over the world, including England where the number one take-out meal is Indian!  Anyways, I digress.  Our first experience at The Host Restaurant was simply fantastic and we have become regulars ever since.

This review is not on the dinner service, but the lunch buffet they have during the week and on weekends.  Typically, in my humble opinion, buffets are over-rated and done poorly, unless you are in Las Vegas!  The Host’s buffet is an exception.  The variety found in the buffet is remarkable, with choices ranging from Malai Kofta Dilkhush (paneer) to tandoori chicken to goat curry and butter chicken!  All the selections were delectable.  The Host, in Mrs Fressen’s opinion, serves the best butter chicken known to mankind.  They utilize tandoori chicken in their butter chicken and the depth of flavours and seasonings are simply remarkable.  Unfortunately, the butter chicken in the buffet only contains regular chicken breast, not tandoori chicken.  Being the ever resourceful person, Mrs. Fressen combined the tandoori chicken with the butter chicken and her problem was solved!  The naan is served fresh from the tandoor and helps complete the meal.  The paneer was tender and soft and seasoned perfectly.  The tandoori chicken, unlike other restaurants, was not dried out but moist, juicy and flavourful!  The goat curry was full-off-the-bone good and many servings were consumed during the meal!

The famous Host Butter Chicken!! Yum!

Fresh naan from the tandoor!

Butter Chicken combined with tandoori chicken! Mouth watering good!

First round: naan bread, rice, tandoori chicken and samosa.

Mrs Fressen’s first course: butter chicken, tandoori chicken, samosa, pakora and rice.

Dessert: Not sure what it is called, but it is like an Indian-style doughnut in a sweet honey sauce. Very rich and decadent!

As usual, everything at The Host Restaurant was expertly prepared, perfectly seasoned and served at the right temperature.  Their attention to detail is second to none and we will be back!  If you are looking for an excellent Indian meal, definitely try The Host Restaurant at East Beaver Creek and Highway 7!  I rate it 5 out of 5 stars and my molars left very happy and satisfied!
